We’re excited to share that Citybox is officially expanding to Denmark!



In April 2025, Citybox signed an agreement with CapMan to open our very first hotel in Denmark. Located in Kastrup, Copenhagen, the hotel will feature 240 rooms and marks a major step in our Scandinavian journey. Starting April 1st, 2025, Citybox will take over operations of the current Best Western Plus Copenhagen Airport. The hotel will continue to operate under its existing format for the time being. In 2026 it will undergo a full renovation and reopen as a Citybox hotel.



This new addition is a significant and long-anticipated milestone for us. With Copenhagen joining the Citybox family, we are proud to have established a presence in all three Scandinavian capitals &#8211; a key goal we’ve been working towards. Copenhagen has always been high on our list because of its vibrant culture and strong tourism industry, and we’re thrilled to finally be here.



The hotel is located close to Copenhagen Airport, which makes it an excellent choice for both international travelers and those on the go. With the nearby metro station, guests will enjoy easy access to the city center and beyond. For those arriving by car, the hotel will also offer convenient parking options.

Our First Hotel in Copenhagen: Citybox is Coming to Denmark

In 2027, Citybox is setting its sights on Northern Norway—more specifically Tromsø.&nbsp;



When opening our hotel in the center of the Tromsø, it will feature 351 rooms. This will make it the largest hotel in Northern Norway. 



This hotel is part of a larger development project in Tromsø called &#8220;Tromsø Mack Øst&#8221;, led by Eiendomsspar. The hotel is part of Phase 1 of the redevelopment of the old Mack brewery site, a project that will expand Tromsø’s city center, adding new spaces for hotels, restaurants, and culture, making it a more lively and attractive area.&nbsp;



The development will include a shopping street, restaurants, museums, concert halls, and more, designed to cater to visitors year-round. In winter, guests can marvel at the Northern Lights from our rooftop terrace on the 10th floor, while in summer, they’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the fjords under the midnight sun. Pretty amazing, right?&nbsp;



The hotel itself will consist of two buildings. The 10th floor will connect to an existing sky bar in Building A, while the lounge and lobby will be spread across three floors. The main entrance will be located on the first floor of Building B. Here, guests will find familiar Citybox features like a guest kitchen, meeting rooms, and co-working spaces. With a strong focus on sustainability, the hotel will be built to BREEAM Excellent standards. We also plan to apply for Green Key certification once it opens. 



While details are still being finalized, everyone involved in the project is excited to finally bring Citybox to Northern Norway!&nbsp;

Citybox is coming to Tromsø!

Citybox Kristiansand Lite first welcomed guests in 2021, following our acquisition of the Yess! hotel. While we&#8217;ve enjoyed running the hotel over the past few years, our vision has always been to expand and transform it into the full Citybox experience that our guests know and love. Now, that vision is becoming a reality!



We’re thrilled to announce that as of December 2024, Citybox Kristiansand Lite will be closing its doors to make way for a brand-new hotel, set to open in Q2 2025. This exciting new chapter will introduce a completely revamped Citybox Kristiansand, featuring 155 modern rooms.



The new hotel’s interior will be inspired by Kristiansand’s natural beauty, as well as the lively spirit of the nearby Kristiansand Dyrepark. We’re confident that it will be the ideal destination for families looking to enjoy a memorable holiday in the city. True to the Citybox brand, you’ll still find familiar elements such as our signature Bolon floors, light wooden furniture, and Scandinavian design.



In addition to the interior transformation, the hotel’s facade will receive a significant upgrade, enhancing both the hotel’s appearance and the overall aesthetic of the neighborhood. We believe this new look will bring fresh energy to the area and elevate the guest experience.

In today&#8217;s fast-paced world, the traditional method of booking meeting rooms often involves tireless back-and-forth communication. Recognizing this challenge, Citybox sought to eliminate these challenges, allowing guests to secure meeting rooms effortlessly.

Meeting room booking made easy

The hotel chain Citybox is launching self-developed check-in terminals in collaboration with tech-company Heisenbug. The terminals, which are designed to manage the guest journey from check-in to check-out, marks another step in Citybox&#8217;s goal to offer the most seamless customer experience in the industry.



It&#8217;s been many years since Citybox was the first hotel chain in Norway to replace the traditional front desk with check-in terminals. Last year, the company launched the first part of its new guest journey as part of a comprehensive rebranding of the company. Now the hotel chain has taken the next step and is launching its own check-in terminals in collaboration with Heisenbug.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Terminals adapted to our guest journey</h2>



-&#8220;Since its inception, Citybox&#8217;s concept has been rooted in the fact that a traditional reception is unnecessary, expensive and an annoying time thief for guests. Over time, we have had different check-in terminals, but now we have finally taken a step further and developed our very own terminals, adapted to our needs and our idea of how the guest journey should be,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.



Technology company Heisenbug has been responsible for the actual development, in close collaboration with Citybox and employees from all departments. The design of the terminal and furniture was done by the hotel chain&#8217;s own Head of Interior &amp; Design, Kristine Holtås.



The terminal currently handles everything from check-in, check-out and payment, as well as enabling luggage storage on both arrival and departure. The terminals also facilitate ID scanning, and further functionalities are already in the pipeline. If guests experience challenges in one of the processes, the terminals themselves notify hotel staff. The aim is for hosts to show up before the guest has even realized that they have a challenge.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Seamless from start to beginning</h2>



These kiosks are more than just check-in; they perform almost every task a traditional front desk does, ensuring a user-friendly experience with associated efficiencies that have been measured and verified to be completed in under 50 seconds. This not only contributes to an improved guest experience, but also to the optimization of hotel operations for Citybox,&#8221; says Tibor Mæhlum, Head of Business at Heisenbug.



With the introduction of new check-in terminals, Citybox builds on its vision to revolutionize the guest experience, a vision that has stood firm since the removal of the traditional front desk. The aim of the project has been to create a terminal that handles the customer journey in a fast and safe way. The current record for check-in is now 43.2 seconds.



&#8220;We&#8217;ve looked at every step of a guest journey and compressed it in the most seamless way to give our guests a safe, easy and, not least, super-fast check-in at our hotels. If there was a world record for fast check-in, I&#8217;m sure one of our guests would hold that record,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.



&#8220;Thinking outside the box has led us to set a new standard for efficiency and usability in the check-in process, and this is just the start,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.



The new check-in terminals are in operation at all the hotels, and will also be present at Citybox Stockholm and Citybox Brussels, which are both due to open the summer of 2024.
